The construction of the Bus Rapid Transit is set to commence next month, August 2020, after president Uhuru Kenyatta signed ksh 5.6Bn deal with the Chinese firm, stecon Corporation.
The BRT project is aimed at reducing the congestion and easing traffic in the capital Nairobi.
The principal secretary of Urban Development Charles Hingq through Business Daily has arguably reiterated that the contract was signed last week and the project entails construction of special lanes for high capacity buses through the Nairobi city centre and Thika Highway.
The project will also include more than 100 buses operating on dedicated lanes on the Thika Highway through the Nairobi City center to KNH area.
The bus capacity will also have the 160 passengers who will be authorized to use the electronic cards for payment.
